As a graduate from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
with teaching experience at various drama programmes, I have access to the pedagogy of acting training shared amongst all reputable drama schools as well as a specific understanding of Adler technique. The Adler technique is a methodology of acting particularly focused on releasing the intense capabilities of our imagination and it is very hard to find Adler training in the UK.
I am however trained across all methods of acting, including Meisner and Strasberg for example. So, I understand the usefulness of accessing a variety of methods to identify what exactly is suited to the individual. I base my training on building an understanding of the Adler Technique primarily but will offer alternative technique training when I feel it may offer you more in a specific circumstance.
I have been personally trained by titans of acting and voice education such as Todd Thaler, Sam Schact, Alithea Phillips, Jimmy Tripp, Jane Boston, Barbara Houseman, Andrew Wade and Anthony Zerbe. Most importantly, I have worked with Ron Burrus as an actor and have also shadowed him as a teacher for years.
As far as I know, I am the only Adler Technique teacher operating from the UK with blessing from Tom Oppenheim, Stella Adler’s grandson and director of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
The Adler Technique is a form of training in which the actor learns how to work indepently in a stimulating manner, rooted in the activation of the imagination while maintaining presence. Key principles covered in the method include:
1. Experiencing your acting (above all)
2. Justification + Imagination = Stimulation
3. Non-Verbal Reactions
5. The Present and Presence
6. Acting Scores
7. Character Actions
8. Awareness without Judgement
10. Owning your Language
Famous students and practictioners of the Adler Technique include: Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Benicio Del Toro, Mark Ruffalo, Melanie Griffith, Salma Hayek, Harvey Keitel and many many more.
I have personally sat on the audition panel for the Stella Adler Studio of Acting during their London auditions. Also, I have completed a pedagogical masters at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Therefore, I have an in depth knowledge of what Drama Schools are looking for in their applicants.
After 10 sessions with me, you will have 2 contemporary monologues and 2 classical monologues ready to go. My actor training in these circumstances is entirely flexible to what I feel you need to give you a shot of getting in. However, we will touch on various acting technique practices that will serve you. Ultimately, you will be left feeling more than ready to complete your applications. Actors I have coached have a very high success rate and my training provides a good foundation for conservatory training.
Typically, to achieve a strong sense of improvement, I recommend taking 10 one hour coaching sessions on a weekly basis. However, this depends on the individual and I do take single bookings as well. All enquiries are welcome.
